Formalising the funeral

1. According to the certificate issued by the doctor or forensic medical specialist and document (passport) identifying the dead person the death certificate has to be formalised based on the residence: in Tallinn Vital Statistics Office or in the local government.

2. Contact the office of the cemetery where you wish to bury for determining the date and time of the funeral. You must have the original death certificate. The funeral is formalised after the person who buries has submitted the death certificate, shown the place of grave at the burial place and paid for the service ordered. In the summer season (from April 16 till November 30) the funeral must be formalised on the day before the funeral by 10 a.m. at the latest. In the winter season (from December 1 till April 15) - two days earlier. No funerals are organised on Sundays, Mondays and legal holidays.

3. Clients who do not have the burial place are allotted 1 or 2 person burial place at the Liiva Cemetery.

4. The user of the burial place is the person to whom the burial place has been allotted. The user may allow other persons use the burial place according to the certified letter of authority. In case there is the burial place, consent of the owner of the place is required for digging the grave.

5. There are funeral houses for organising the funerals at the Rahumäe Cemetery - 40 seats. All the other services and funeral items that are related to funeral customs can be ordered from the funeral offices.
